Womens Hidden Fear Of Independence ;- Gender Panic

To be truthful, I saw also that this man could not protect me in the world.  I had come to a point where it seemed less dangerous to live alone than to continue in a marriage that submerged us both in deception.  Strangely, this realization came at the end of a year in which Ed had nothing to drink.  We were ordinary. workaday people with no claim to specialness.  Without crisis, our lives together began to feel spiritually and emotionally arid.
